Surrendering to the Unknown
🎧Listen (1 hr 16 Mins) | For those who find themselves in the Liminal aka The Void
The Void is that liminal space where what you knew to be good and true about you and your life has crumbled but the new truth hasn’t emerged yet.
Many have called it by different names in the past. The Underworld, The Dark Night Of The Soul, The Cave, The Second Mountain...
In the Myth of Inanna, it’s the 3 days and 3 nights when her dead body hangs from the hook in the Underworld. The beloved Queen has died but she hasn’t gone to the Afterlife yet. Literally and figuratively she is in the Liminal Space between the two worlds.
3 days and 3 nights ofcourse is a metaphor. The time we spend in The Void can last as long as it needs to. Sometimes years, sometimes decades and sometimes a few months.
If you ever find yourself in the Liminal Space, look for those who have committed their life to seek for the Void again and again. You might be thinking, why would anyone seek the Liminal?
It’s because they have have traversed these spaces many times and they know that even though there is fear, uncertainity and pain in the liminal, even though parts of them will die in the liminal - - it is the gateway to Healing, to Wholeness and a full circle back home to Self.
In the darkness of the Void, when you have finally surrendered and settled down, you can hear the whispers of the wisdom that lives in the Liminal.
Some people think that getting out of the Void is the hardest. It isn’t. Settling in is.
Surrendering is.
From the beginning of my Journey Home to Self, I was fascinated with the idea of Surrender. I wanted to know how to do it. What I knew of Surrender was that it was raising the white flag, like in a war.
But the surrender others talked about was not giving up, it was giving in. “How do I give in, when I wanted to so badly control the situations in my life?”
I read many books. The Surrender Experiment by Michael A Singer, Outrageous Openness by Tosha Silver, to name a few. I wanted to know how to do this “surrender” thing in life.
In retrospect, it wasn’t Surrender that I wanted. I very much still wanted to control my world and get the hell out of The Void. I was still not settling in.
But over the years I have learned that Surrender is not something you do. It’s what happens as a result of who you become in the Void.
Between the 4 Stages of Journey Home to Self, Surrender happens at the Point of Pivot right in the middle (The Zero Point). It’s the Fulcrum that catapults us to the other side of this Journey, closer to home.
If right now, you are in the Void or at the precipice of jumping into the Liminal and like me are wondering ; “How do I let go of control and Surrender into the Unknown?”, then I have just the thing for you.
My good friend and fellow traveler into The Void, Maegan Megginson, recently had me on her podcast, The Deeply Rested Podcast to talk about my experience on Surrendering into the Unknown.
It was a delightful conversation where we dove into what it means to balance entrepreneurship with spirituality, the courage to lean into vulnerability, and the power of surrendering to the unknown.
Here’s a peek at what we discuss:
My fresh perspective on entrepreneurship (01:10)
Navigating the ups and downs of business ownership (05:02)
The power of embracing liminal spaces (11:38)
Reflections on self-worth and building resilience (35:51)
How to find support during transformative journeys (36:52)
Navigating loss and embracing the power of surrender (39:50)
Maegan and I would love to hear from you on what resonated from the podcast. And, if you have any questions, insights or want to share your experience from The Void, pls reach out to any of us. You can hit reply to me here or send me a private message :)
Beckoning you Home,
With Love,
Deepshikha
P.S : On the podcast, you’ll hear me talk about my new project, The Muse Master. This is something that has evolved as a result of my Surrender as you’ll hear on the Podcast.
I’ll talk more about it in the next few weeks, but if you are interested in knowing what it is, take a peek here.
Full disclosure - I am building this airplane as I learn how to fly it. Although I am not new to entrepreneurship, I am new to creating a business from this new version of me. I am being extremely intentional, taking small, slow steps and holding this new dream loosely in my palms.
More on all of this soon.
