"I have spent the better part of my life living on other people's terms" ~ Chitra Rochlani
A chill went down my spine when I heard Chitra speak these words for the first time. We did a pre-podcast call to catch up (we are old friends, she was a client of mine from my business coaching days and we live in the same town) and to talk about what we will talk about on the podcast.
Chitra told me she usually opens her talks with this statement. I can imagine why. If I were in the audience listening to a speaker, a woman, say these words, Iād be hooked to every word. Because, the truth is, as women, many of us have in some shape, way or form lived our lives on other peopleās terms.
And, hereās a story of a woman who has broken free and is home now, to her true nature.
Does she still feel the resistance? Yes.
Does she still doubt this journey? I think so.
Does she still sometimes get all wrapped around in her head and forget her way home? I bet she does.
Chitra says she is on a journey of self-discovery (not to be confused with self-improvement btw) and this journey is a life-long journey of learning to anchor herself in her soul and not her ego.
āWhenĀ IĀ realizedĀ that (ā¦..) ifĀ IĀ sayĀ noĀ andĀ IĀ lookĀ likeĀ theĀ badĀ person,Ā it'sĀ OK.Ā I'mĀ goingĀ toĀ standĀ inĀ that,Ā evenĀ thoughĀ itĀ feelsĀ uncomfortableĀ becauseĀ IĀ knowĀ thatĀ whenĀ IĀ setĀ thoseĀ boundariesĀ andĀ whenĀ IĀ speakĀ upĀ forĀ myself,Ā myĀ soulĀ comesĀ aliveĀ aĀ littleĀ bitĀ more.Ā AndĀ that'sĀ whoĀ I'mĀ anchoringĀ intoĀ now.Ā MyĀ anchorĀ isĀ myĀ soul.Ā MyĀ anchorĀ isĀ notĀ myĀ egoĀ anymoreā
In this episode, Chitra shared her P.F.H (Peel, Feel, Heal) to inspire transformation and get into that Warrior Mindset.
These are some of my favorite takeaways from this heart-warming and āfull of actionable stepsā episode:
Chitra's personal story of coming home to herself and the shifts she made to unleash her inner warrior. (I personally related to her immigrant story)
The importance of self-awareness and the three A's: Awareness, Acceptance, and Action and how questioning the false beliefs and narratives imposed by society can help us uncover our authentic selves.
The Power of Intuition. Chitra emphasizes intuition as an underutilized superpower that can guide us to make winning decisions in life. She also shares some great tips for differentiating the voice of our intuition from that of fear.
Overcoming People-Pleasing. How Chitra flipped the switch on what she thought were her āflawsā and started to see them as her strengths. This practice became a keystone in helping her overcome people-pleasing.
Listen to this 1-min clip where Chitra talks about People-Pleasing
The PFH Framework. Chitra introduces her signature framework, Peel, Feel, Heal, as a method to inspire transformation by addressing the root causes of our issues. If you hate Band-Aid solutions, youād love this! (Also the story she shared here is a tear-jerker š¢)
Meditation without Meditating. We learn that meditation doesn't have to be traditional. Activities like art, nature, and movement can also bring us into a meditative state, allowing our intuition to speak to us more clearly.
Lastly, Chitra also talks about how to tame the Itty, Bitty, Shitty Committee of our mind and the constant battle between the āInner Witchā and āThe Inner Warrior.ā
Plus, donāt miss the surprising answer Chitra gave to 1 of the 5 rapid-fire questions I ask each of my guests at the end of the episode.
