“Mommy, are you happy, sad or angry?”
These are the words from my secondborn’s mouth at least a few times a day and right before bed.
He always wants to know how we are all feeling. He will ask his dad, his brother. He will even ask the dog. “Cleo, are you happy, sad, or angry?”
Some days I tell him, “I am kinda sad today.” He’d always want to know why. Sometimes I give him the truth and sometimes a PG version of the truth. He and I will then proceed to have a therapy session in the dark. I bent over his tiny little body that I just tucked in, his face glowing from the bathroom light coming from behind me asking me about my feelings.
